Whale Catcher “Southern Actor”
We are about to take you back in time in pictures and video as we have recently completed a repair for the Whale Catcher “Southern Actor” belonging to the Sandefjord Whaling Museum.

Not often we carry out a repair for a historical old steam boiler like “Southern Actor”
The repair included both repairs in our workshop and onsite work before and after.
We received the complete propeller equipment to our workshop after previous inspection/laser alignment and assistance on dismantling of the parts.
In our workshop in Hirtshals we:
· Manufactured a new propeller shaft in S355J2G3 steel with 3.2 certificate
· Manufactured a new 2500 mm aluminum bronze liner for the propeller shaft
· We repaired the Intermediate shaft and Thrust shaft
· We renewed the white metal of 4 bearings and 2 connection rods.
· We repaired the Thrust casing and the crankshaft
· We repaired 4 propeller blades
Everything was fitting tested before returning the parts to Southern Actor where MarineShaft service engineers carried out the reinstallation including crankshaft and went along for the test “ride”.
